In a thrilling change of scenery, Cliff Jumping UK recently took their high-flying antics indoors to Sandwell Aquatics Centre, an elite diving facility in Birmingham built in 2022 for the Commonwealth Games. The team got creative with an epic trampet setup and turned the pool into an arena for gravity-defying tricks, personal bests, and… a hint of suspense.
Highlights of the day included the Triple Hope “train”. A trio consisting of Jude Harris, James Williams-Fuller and Matty "Ruff-Rider" Harper performed the trick which features a front flip into a barani followed by a backflip in quick succession. In addition, many team members achieved personal bests during the session, with young Max stealing the spotlight by nailing his first-ever backflip from the 10-meter board. Competitors at the swimming gala gathered at the diving pool edge between their heats and watched as Max confidently launched himself off the platform. This marked a milestone moment for him and inspired everyone around to aim higher—literally.
The unique set up also allowed beginners to out new tricks and test their limits in the safe, structured environment of the indoor pool. Benefits included the watchful eye of experienced diving coaches Nigel and co., a bubble machine for softer landings and the option of a diving harness. Seeing newcomers jump in, quite literally, with seasoned divers made for an inclusive, high-energy atmosphere that highlighted the community spirit of the group. Cliff Jumping UK has always been about more than just thrilling stunts; it’s a supportive crew that encourages everyone to push their limits, whether you’re a seasoned jumper or just starting out.
The session reached a- pardon the pun- cliffhanger when Lachlann "Youth Club" Murphy lined up for what was set to be the grand finale—a half full back (barani into a backflip with 360 rotation, followed by another backflip). With everyone gathered around, the anticipation was palpable. But, just as he prepared for the attempt, time was called on the session, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats. Will Youth Club land this daring move? We’ll have to wait until the next session in January to find out!
That evening, we ate at Casitas Italian Restaurant in Dudley, about a 20 min drive away. Wondering why they had to trek quite so far after a long diving session, Ruff, Luke, James and Youth Club’s suspicion was instantly relieved the moment they had their first bite of Funghi Trifolate and Bruschetta Pomodoro. The delicious food was only topped by the eccentric decoration and wonderful service. The food was phenomenal and we highly recommend you take a visit if you are heading that way.
